Description
The Mechanical Design Engineering Internship aims to provide hands-on experience in mechanical design, prototyping, and testing. The intern will work closely with the engineering team to support ongoing projects and contribute to the development of innovative solutions.
Objectives
1. Gain practical experience in mechanical design and engineering principles.
2. Assist in the creation and modification of CAD models and drawings.
3. Participate in the prototyping and testing of mechanical components.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
5. Develop problem-solving skills and apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios.
Scope of Work
Design and Development:
- Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and systems.
- Create and modify CAD models using software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
- Generate detailed engineering drawings and documentation.
Prototyping and Testing:
- Support the fabrication and assembly of prototypes.
- Conduct tests to evaluate the performance and reliability of mechanical components.
- Analyze test results and provide recommendations for improvements.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the engineering team to understand project requirements and objectives.
- Participate in team meetings and provide updates on project progress.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and product management.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of design changes, test results, and project milestones.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations to summarize findings and recommendations.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program or related field.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Basic understanding of prototyping and testing methodologies.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
The position requires that the employee regularly sit and use their hands to handle or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, and kneel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Requirements:
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
