Fraunhofer IGD is the international leading institute for applied research in visual computing. Visual computing is image- and model-based information technology and includes computer graphics and computer vision, as well as virtual and augmented reality. In the “Carbon Utilization and Synfuels” department, we are working on innovative ways to produce sustainable fuels. One area of focus is the synthesis of higher alcohols from ethanol and methanol. As part of your master’s thesis, you will further develop existing approaches and processes for alcohol condensation.

 

Be part of change

  • Testing and evaluation of various catalysts
  • Experimental design, as well as operation and optimization of pilot plants
  • Analysis and quantification of experimental results
  • Evaluation of the process in a techno-economic context
  • Literature review on relevant topics

 

What you contribute

  • Currently pursuing a master’s degree in chemistry or chemical engineering
  • First experience within a chemical laboratory setting
  • Proficiency in handling hazardous materials
  • Ideally, prior experience in process simulation, LabVIEW, and Simatic, as well as GC analysis
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
