Fraunhofer IGD is the international leading institute for applied research in visual computing. Visual computing is image- and model-based information technology and includes computer graphics and computer vision, as well as virtual and augmented reality. In simple terms, the Fraunhofer researchers in Darmstadt, Rostock, and Kiel are turning information into images and extracting information from images. In cooperation with its partners, technical solutions and market-relevant products are created. Prototypes and integrated solutions are developed in accordance with customized requirements. For over 35 years, the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology in Berlin has stood for excellence in production science. We are dedicated to combining science and practice in the field of industrial production and offer application-oriented system solutions for the entire range of industrial tasks - from product development to the production process, the maintenance of capital goods and the recycling of products through to the design and management of factory operations.

 

In the Extended Reality department, we conduct research into AR & VR solutions in virtual product development to support engineers in complex tasks. 

 

 

What you will do

 

As part of a compact interdisciplinary team, you will support projects focusing on software development and work on VR/AR demonstrators in the Unity Engine. This will give you insights into application-oriented research and the opportunity to actively help shape industrial applications. 

 

What you bring to the table

 

  • Studies in computer science, media informatics, or a comparable field of study
  • Practical experience in software development (Unity Engine)
  • Experience with the Git version control system
  • Interest in solving complex tasks independently
  • German and/or English language skills

 

Optional:

  • Initial experience in working with AR/VR applications
  • Interest in UI/UX and front-end development in Unity

The weekly working time is 39 hours (full-time).

Remuneration is based on the federal guidelines for internship remuneration.

The duration of the thesis depends on the requirements of your university.
