About the Role

The SPLC is seeking initiative-taking IT interns who are enthusiastic about cybersecurity! 


The Southern Poverty Law Center offers internships to exceptional students enrolled in an IT related field who possess effective communication skills, strong work ethic and attention to detail. The Center is a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people. As an internationally recognized nonprofit organization, the Center is dedicated to reducing bigotry and oppression through research and public education, outreach, litigation, and policy advocacy.

What You'll Do

Coordinate with employees and vendors to investigate, identify, and resolve cybersecurity related service desk tickets.

Translate business requirements and collaborate with stakeholders on solution designs.

Create and maintain documentation for IT processes and applications.

Provide functional advice and training to employees on IT systems and applications.

Analyze emails, files, links, or software for malware or data loss.

Conduct vulnerability management scans and apply security patch updates.

Monitor activity logs and system alerts for security incidents and perform incident response actions.

Minimum Qualifications 

We are committed to equitable hiring practices; therefore, you must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for the role.

  • Currently enrolled in an Information Technology related field, at least a 2-year student; and
  • Effective communication skills.

Compensation & Benefits

The Center pays $17.95 per hour for a minimum of 15 hours per week for 18 weeks. There may be opportunity for supervisor approved overtime.

Where & How You'll Work 

This role has the following work designation:

Telework (Montgomery or Atlanta): Will work at an SPLC office at least three days per week and may work two days from an alternate location.

Other Special Considerations 

This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
