About the Role

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections,  where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Our Global Internship Programme in Innovation & Sustainability (#IP2TIS) offers a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry while making a positive impact on the world.

Are you ready to join a global network spanning 20+ countries, where bright minds collaborate to tackle real-world challenges in Innovation & Sustainability? Do you want to work on impactful projects, shape the future, and drive change from within?

As an intern, you will contribute to a project focused on building an automated biomedical knowledge graph to accelerate research and development discovery. The project aims to improve scientific knowledge access by using efficient small language models to extract structured relationships from biomedical literature, reducing reliance on more energy-intensive approaches while improving interpretability and completeness. Within your first 3 months, you are expected to help implement a fine-tuning pipeline for a small language model, develop an entity resolution workflow, build a large-scale knowledge graph from a disease-relevant abstract corpus, and contribute to a performance report and integration demo. Your work will support faster evidence synthesis, more systematic discovery of research insights, and more sustainable AI usage in R&D. This internship offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of NLP, biomedical data, and drug discovery with direct impact on future innovation.

The Opportunity

  • Analyze the top 10 most frequently used plastics and composite materials within a defined pilot area

  • Extract and integrate relevant data from SAP and ECHA sources to identify key disposal cost drivers

  • Develop an interactive dashboard MVP that visualizes the relationship between material choice, CO2 footprint, and end-of-life costs

  • Evaluate the design-for-recycling status of existing product components

  • Identify and assess alternative materials that could improve the SHE score while reducing disposal expenses

  • Support the creation of a recommendation roadmap for Procurement to facilitate the transition to more circular alternatives

  • Translate complex technical and sustainability data into practical insights for business decision-making

  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders in Product Stewardship and related functions to support the pilot use case

Who You Are

You are enrolled or have completed your Master’s or PhD studies at a university, preferably in the field of Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics / Computational Biology, or Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months.

Furthermore you are

  • Proficient in data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI and have experience with Python

  • Familiar with SAP data structures and have a solid understanding of circular economy principles

  • Able to analyze complex datasets and turn findings into clear business recommendations

  • Comfortable working independently and navigating technical data sources

  • Fluent in English and German

If you meet most but not all qualifications, we still encourage you to apply.

Additional information

The internship is expected to start between 1 and 16 July 2026 and will last at least 3 months.
