Program Overview:

The Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD) Summer Youth Employment Program offers young individuals the opportunity to develop leadership and mentorship skills by serving as Summer Interns.


Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist with daily administrative tasks, including data entry, filing, and document preparation 
  • Provide customer service support by greeting visitors and responding to basic inquiries 
  • Support departmental projects and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner 
  • Engage with external agencies and community partners to gain hands-on work experience 
  • Attend and participate in professional development and career readiness workshops 
  • Maintain accurate records and assist with organizing files and reports 
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete assignments 
  • Follow workplace policies, procedures, and professional standards 
  • Demonstrate effective communication, teamwork, and time management skills 
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a student or recent high school graduate, typically aged 16–24.
  • Resident of Birmingham, AL, with preference for HABD residents.
  • Experience working with children (preferred but not required).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team and take initiative.
  • Willingness to participate in training sessions.
