About the Role

POSITION SUMMARY

The Graphic Design Intern is a part-time (20 hours per week) paid position with the majority of those hours being spent in the Chicago office. The Graphic Design Intern will assist the APCIA design team in developing visual content across print and digital platforms and support senior designers by executing design tasks, maintaining brand consistency, and learning professional design workflows.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design Creation: Produce graphics for marketing collateral, in particular for APCIA events, and website assets.
  • Collaboration: Participate in brainstorming sessions and collaborate with senior designers to conceptualize work product in support of broader campaigns.
  • Revisions: Revise and update existing brand assets based on feedback from senior designers or clients.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Asset Management: Organize design files, retouch images, and prepare files for print or digital production.
  • Research: Stay current on industry trends and conduct research to support new design projects. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

1. Educational

  • Currently enrolled in a Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or related degree program at an accredited university or college.
  • High school diploma.

2. Experience

  • Practical experience in graphic design, either in print, digital, or both.
  • Successful completion of course work related to a Graphic Design major.
  •  Leadership role in a visual arts or graphic design organization preferred.

SKILLS

  • Software Proficiency: Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is required.
  • Design Fundamentals: Basic understanding of typography, color theory, and layout principles.
  • Other Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to receive constructive criticism, and effective communication skills.
