About the Role

Student Worker – Legacy Annual Giving Signature Programs Intern (26 - 27)

 Number of Openings: 1

Purpose/Objective of the Role:

The Annual Giving Signature Programs Intern works closely with the Associate Director of Advancement, alongside the Annual Giving team, to support two of Ohio Wesleyan’s signature fundraising programs: the 50th alumni reunion celebration and the annual day of giving, We Are OWU. The 50th reunion program will provide the Class of 1977 with a memorable milestone event while also fundraising for the class gift. We Are OWU will be in its seventh year, and it brings together the Bishop community to provide essential resources for Ohio Wesleyan. The selected candidate will help strategize, develop, and execute program tasks throughout the year to provide meaningful experiences for alumni and secure philanthropic resources for the University.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

The Signature Programs Intern will experience a variety of tasks depending on the time of year and program needs. Examples of tasks for the 50th reunion program include: developing custom communications for the 50th reunion alumni, including graphic design, newsletter content, and website design; working with OWU digital archives and other alumni memorabilia, including yearbooks; preparing event materials for Reunion Weekend in May; manipulating large data sets; making thank-you calls and writing notes to donors; and recording outreach in OWU’s alumni records system. Examples of tasks for the day of giving, We Are OWU, include: attending and contributing to program committee meetings alongside OWU staff; generating ideas and creating graphics for social media posts and other marketing materials related to fundraising initiatives; developing and helping execute on-campus activities for students leading up to and during We Are OWU; and recording personalized videos for donors. In addition to these program-specific tasks, the successful candidate will assist with additional strategic priorities relevant to their role as they arise.

Qualifications:

Due to its funding source, all applicants must be Legacy students, meaning they must have had a family member (parent/step- parent, grandparent, step grandparent, cousin, aunt, uncle, sibling, etc.) graduate from Ohio Wesleyan. The successful candidate for this position will be organized, creative, and detail-oriented. The Signature Programs Intern will have strong communication skills, be able to engage with new people and those from different generations, be willing to promote OWU’s mission, and understand and respect confidentiality. Excel experience and comfortability with appearing on camera for recorded thank-you video messages to donors are preferred.

Potential Future Career Benefit:

Related career fields include non-profit management and/or development, communications and marketing, fundraising, and event planning. The Signature Programs Intern will experience a professional, collaborative work environment and gain familiarity with several software programs and working in an office setting.
