Job Description

NBC Bay Area's News Internship provides students with real world experience and exposure to working in a major market and in a high-energy newsroom.

Join our award-winning news team and gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, major market. Interns will work alongside experienced journalists who are responsible for producing newscasts and cut-ins, as well as writing copy read during broadcasts on NBC Bay Area. 

We are seeking motivated candidates with a strong interest in writing and producing.This internship offers an immersive look at the day-to-day operations of a duopoly television station’s reporting process.

Interns will have the opportunity to develop and sharpen their newswriting and production skills.

The summer internship dates are June 1, 2026 through August 7, 2026.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Writing content for multiple newscasts
  • Conducting research to support news coverage, including with our award-winning Investigative Unit
  • Editing video for broadcast 
  • Filing graphics for broadcast
  • Assisting with producing cut-ins on linear and streaming
  • Creating social media content

Interns may also have the opportunity to shadow reporters, photographers and other roles in the newsroom.  

This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring journalists eager to build practical skills in a collaborative, bilingual newsroom environment serving the Bay Area.

Internships at NBCUniversal are paid and do not require course credit.

Qualifications

NBCUniversal interns must meet the following criteria:

• In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution and be able to provide documentation to confirm your degree progress. We will consider recent graduates one semester beyond degree.

• Current class standing of Junior or above

• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above

• Must be 18 years of age or older

• Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. without a Visa or sponsorship

• The ability to work at the station, located at 2450 N. First Street, San Jose, CA

Base Salary is $18.45 per hour
