The intern will work with Controller Area Network (CAN) bus telemetry data collected from multiple vehicles to develop and refine machine learning models capable of predicting maintenance needs and identifying anomalies in vehicle performance. This is an opportunity to apply data science skills to a real-world engineering problem with direct relevance to Department of Defense vehicle readiness initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Develops, refines, and evaluates machine learning models using a data-driven approach to identify vehicle health and performance patterns.
- Identifies signals of interest, normal operational patterns, and deviations or anomalies that indicate upcoming maintenance requirements.
- Works with anonymized open-source vehicle telemetry data from a repository of data-logged vehicles to draw new inferences about vehicle health.
- Collaborates with engineers and researchers to document findings, present results, and contribute to project reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with time-series analysis, signal processing, or anomaly detection methods.
- Familiarity with automotive systems, vehicle telematics, or CAN bus communication protocols.
- Experience with data visualization tools or libraries (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly) to communicate analytical findings.
- Strong intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and a drive to find meaningful patterns in complex, high-dimensional data.
