About the Role

The Manufacturing Engineer Co-Op is responsible for providing assistance to the commercial products and assemblies (CPA) engineering team to develop solutions for product and manufacturing problems. This position will contribute to the manufacturing product line with involvement from project initiation thru manufacturing launch, plus ongoing developments. This position will work closely with the Engineering Manager, Program Manager, other Manufacturing Engineers and System Architects, Electrical Engineers, Product Line Marketing Manager, and Operations team members, Sourcing and Manufacturing personnel to support and continuously improve the product line.
 
What you’ll do:
 
•    Provide assistance to line and staff personnel in order to develop solutions for product and manufacturing problems for a complete line of apparatus.
•    Assist in training and development of personnel.  Assemble, verify, and analyze the results of others, prepare reports and present findings.
•    Initiate and prepare specifications for products, equipment, tooling, processes, and systems to obtain optimum cost and quality manufacturability.
•    Implement and utilize strategies to ensure concurrent engineering and design for manufacturing concepts with the design engineering team.
•    Investigate and develop understanding of new technologies and processes and be able to assess these from a broad perspective in terms of the impact of the total business.
•    Design, develop, justify, and guide the installation of new engineering concepts, equipment, tooling, processes, and systems through appropriate procedures so that optimum manufacturing cost can be achieved and maintained.
•    Maintain an understanding of JIT, Lean & Agile Manufacturing, Kaizen, TQM, Poka-Yoke and cPQI.
•    Participate in project management and engaging with multi-disciplined teams to achieve goals using ProLaunch and other project management tools.
•    Participate in Voice of the Customer (VOC) product and market requirements research. 
•    Ensure timely completion to project commitment dates.
•    Other duties, projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
•    Actively enrolled in a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree program in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
•    Minimum of one internship or co-op experience or an equivalent of 3 months work experience completed at the time of this application.

•    Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher (please don't round).
•    Relocation assistance will be provided for candidates that reside outside a 50-mile radius of Sumter, SC.


Preferred Qualifications:
•    Prior internship experience within a manufacturing environment.
•    Candidate with Yellow Belt certification.
•    Understanding of Lean Six Sigma concepts preferred.
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office
