About the Role

Description

Position Summary: 

The Liturgy Intern assists the Rector in planning and coordinating liturgical life at St. Peter. The Liturgy Intern is responsible for recruiting, training, and scheduling liturgical ministers and preparing Sign-In sheets for scheduled ministers. The Liturgy Intern is also responsible for ensuring liturgical supplies are in stock and for maintaining the cleanliness of altar paraments and other liturgical items (holy water stoups, candle followers, thurible, etc.).


Ministerial Character:

The Rector is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish (St. Peter Catholic Student Center) which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. To fulfill his mission, the Rector employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Positions employed at St. Peter Catholic Student Center (SPCSC) help to extend the ministry of the Rector in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Rector in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.


Mission: 

SPCSC is a campus ministry of the Diocese of Austin whose mission is to welcome and serve the students of Baylor University, McLennan Community College (MCC) and Texas State Technical College (TSTC) by nurturing spiritual growth through worship, education, fellowship, and service within the Catholic tradition.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Liturgy

· Assist the Rector in coordinating, scheduling, and training Liturgical Ministries including lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, sacristans, and altar servers.

· Prepare General Intercessions for Sunday liturgies

· Prepare Sign-In Sheets for Sunday/holy day liturgical ministers

· Coordinate/Schedule Daily Mass sacristans

· Communicate with Center Coordinator regarding ordering liturgical supplies including candles, altar wine, hosts, and other items for St. Peter Chapel

· Ensure that altar paraments, candle sticks, candle followers are cleaned and/or polished on a regular (every two weeks) basis

· Ensure holy water stoups are cleaned and refilled on a weekly basis

· Periodically remove wax droplets from sanctuary carpet.

· Ensure the vases are ready to be picked up each week by the volunteer who arranges sanctuary flowers.

· Any other liturgical duties and tasks as assigned by the Rector.


Working Conditions:

· All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Rector in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church. 

· The Parish is an at-will employer.

· All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free.

· Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.

· Working on weekends, evenings, and some holidays is often required by the very nature of this position

· Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations. 

· Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.

· May be required to use personal or parish vehicle to drive to off-site locations.

Reports to: Rector

Hours: 6-8 hours/week

Travelling within and outside the parish to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may require overnight lodging. 


Requirements

 Requirements / Skills:

· Catholic and in good standing with the Church

· Proficiency in Word, Excel & Google Drive

· Organization skills

· Motivated & independent 

· Flexible hours

Student at Baylor, MCC, or TSTC

• Valid Texas driver’s license.

• Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
