About the Role

The Plant & Maintenance Engineering Intern will provide hands-on technical support across several high-impact areas within the plant. This includes designing and developing machine guarding solutions to improve safety and compliance, creating and updating electrical and mechanical schematics, and organizing and standardizing engineering documentation. The intern will also support active maintenance and capital projects through documentation, tracking, and data management. In addition, they will play a key role in supporting our ISO 50001 energy management efforts by assisting with documentation of the Energy Management System (EnMS), tracking energy performance data, and helping maintain audit-ready records. Finally, the intern will contribute to the development and sustainment of our Maintenance Technician Training & Growth Program by creating training materials, organizing skill development pathways, and improving documentation that supports technician effectiveness.

Engineering & Design Support

  • Design and develop machine guarding solutions to improve safety and compliance
  • Create and update electrical and mechanical schematics
  • Assist in standardizing and organizing engineering documentation

Documentation & Project Support

  • Support capital and maintenance projects through documentation, tracking, and updates
  • Improve accessibility and accuracy of equipment records and technical files

ISO 50001 & Energy Management Support

  • Assist with documentation and organization of the Energy Management System (EnMS)
  • Support tracking and analysis of energy performance data
  • Help maintain compliance records and audit-ready documentation
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to energy efficiency

Training & Workforce Development

  • Assist in building, organizing, and maintaining the Maintenance Technician Training Program
  • Develop training materials, standard work instructions, and skills tracking tools
  • Support ongoing continuous improvement of technician development pathways

Requirements & Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Plant & Maintenance Engineering Intern role will be a motivated, detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in manufacturing, engineering, and continuous improvement.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, electrical systems, and industrial equipment
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and/or electrical schematic tools
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with data tracking or analysis is a plus
  • Interest in safety standards, energy management (including ISO 50001), and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with engineering and maintenance teams
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
