Carlisle Construction Materials is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Engineering Intern to support maintenance and reliability initiatives at our Lake City facility. This role provides hands-on experience working with mechanical and electrical systems, preventive maintenance (PM) programs, and technical documentation.
The ideal candidate will gain exposure to real-world industrial operations while contributing to the development and optimization of maintenance strategies that improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Analysis & Maintenance Support
- Review OEM manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to understand equipment functionality.
- Extract and develop preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and recommended service intervals from technical documentation.
- Identify critical equipment components based on function, failure impact, and downtime risk.
Documentation & System Management
- Create and maintain detailed PM task lists and spare parts inventories using Excel and Word.
- Support updates within SAP CMMS systems to ensure accurate maintenance records and asset data.
- Cross-check manuals and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to validate PM procedures and spare parts accuracy.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with maintenance technicians, OEM representatives, and maintenance leadership to clarify technical details when documentation is incomplete.
- Translate technical information into clear, concise, and actionable maintenance procedures.
Continuous Improvement
- Assist with initiatives related to reliability, Lean manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and overall equipment effectiveness.
- Contribute to process improvements focused on reducing downtime and improving asset performance.
Qualifications
Minimum Education & Coursework
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Completed coursework in:
- Engineering fundamentals (mechanical or electrical)
- Technical writing or documentation
- Maintenance or reliability concepts (preferred but not required)
Required Skills & Competencies
- Ability to read and interpret OEM manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Foundational understanding of mechanical and electrical systems (e.g., motors, pumps, conveyors, sensors).
Analytical Thinking
- Ability to extract maintenance requirements from technical documentation.
- Capable of identifying critical components based on risk and operational impact.
Documentation & Organization
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Familiarity with SAP CMMS or similar maintenance management systems.
Attention to Detail
- Strong focus on accuracy, consistency, and completeness in technical documentation.
- Ability to validate information across multiple sources (manuals, BOMs, system data).
Communication Skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to gather information from technical stakeholders.
- Ability to write clear, structured, and concise maintenance instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
- Experience reviewing Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Interest in Lean manufacturing, TPM, or industrial optimization.
