About the Internship
As part of BBB’s paid Summer Internship Program, you’ll get to experience real day-to-day work in your field of study, complete a meaningful summer long project, participate in cross-departmental development opportunities, and be networked with some of the largest brands in the region.
Position Summary:
BBB’s Operations department brings businesses and consumers together to foster a trustworthy marketplace. The department includes three closely connected programs: Data Quality, Dispute Resolution, and Trade Practices, all of which support BBB’s mission by maintaining accurate business information, resolving consumer concerns, and promoting ethical business practices.
The Operations Intern will report to the Trade Practices Program Manager, and gains hands-on experience across all three programs, spending approximately one-third of the internship with each team.
Program Overview
- Data Quality: Ensures BBB business information is accurate and up to date for internal use and public reporting on BBB.org. The team collaborates with BBBs across the U.S. and Canada and works to improve data processes and efficiency.
- Dispute Resolution: Manages consumer complaints and customer reviews in Minnesota and North Dakota, helping businesses and consumers resolve issues through BBB’s voluntary process. In 2025, the team handled approximately 25,000 complaints and 16,000 reviews, while also identifying potential patterns of concern and supporting mediation and arbitration services.
- Trade Practices: Monitors business conduct, conducts investigations, and reports findings to the public. The team also reviews advertising for accuracy, addresses misleading claims, and ensures proper use of BBB trademarks.
- Our Database: BBB maintains profiles on more than 175,000 businesses across Minnesota and North Dakota. These profiles help consumers make informed decisions and contribute to BBB business ratings (A+ to F), which are based on 14 established factors.
Responsibilities include:
- Updating and correcting existing business records in database, using Data Quality dashboard as guide
- Creating new business records from information imported by GREG data engine
- Working with Data Quality Program Manager on report creation and data projects
- Processing and reviewing incoming consumer complaints for compliance with BBB acceptance policies
- Analyzing complaints against a business for potential patterns
- Reviewing, processing, and posting BBB customer reviews
- Scheduling and supporting BBB Auto Line ‘Lemon Law’ arbitrations
- Reading local Scam Tracker reports and conducting investigations as needed
- Reviewing business websites for possible BBB trademark infringement or other advertising concerns
- Working with Trade Practices Program Manager to identify and report government agency enforcement actions
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Marketing, Information Technology, Business or related field.
- Exceptional customer service, interpersonal, organizational, business communication and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and collaborate with a wide range of individuals.
- Demonstrated problem solving and judgment capabilities.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new responsibilities.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with attention to detail
- Must take initiative, be self-motivated and an independent, accountable, dependable performer.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook) preferred but not required. BBB will train interns on these programs as needed, along with Microsoft Copilot AI.
- Bi-lingual skills will receive priority consideration.

Schedule/Work Location/ Pay
- BBB will work with you to create a schedule that is flexible to meet your student needs! The preferred schedule is 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday.
- This internship role is in-office, and located at our Burnsville Office: 220 S. River Ridge Circle, Burnsville, MN
- The pay for this internship position is $17.50/ hour.
- The internship program starts Monday, June 1st and lasts to Friday, August 28th, 2026. BBB will be flexible on your start and end date if needed.
