About the Role

Job Title:                  IT Engineer Intern/Co-op

Reports To:              Director of Information Technology and Digital Transformation

Grade:                      8

About the Role:

If you thrive in an environment where no two days look the same, you'll fit right in. QED moves fast, and our IT team is at the center of it. We keep infrastructure humming, pushing cloud initiatives forward, and making sure our security posture stays sharp. As an IT Co-op, you won't just shadow someone, you'll be a real contributor from day one, working alongside a tight-knit team where your ideas are heard and your work actually matters.

What you will work on:

  • Own helpdesk tickets end-to-end (troubleshoot, resolve, and document issues for employees across the company)
  • Get hands-on with our on-premises and cloud infrastructure: servers, networking hardware, and Microsoft Azure / M365 environments
  • Support active cloud migration projects, helping move workloads and services to Azure
  • Contribute to our CMMC 2.0 and NIST 800-171 compliance program
  • Help maintain and improve our endpoint security posture, patching, and documentation
  • Collaborate across the team on infrastructure improvements and IT initiatives that have real business impact

What we are looking for:

Candidates pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field. Beyond that, we care more about curiosity and drive than a perfect checklist. That said, experience in any of the following will make you stand out:

  • Windows environments - Active Directory, Entra ID, Windows 10/11 administration
  • Cloud platforms - Microsoft Azure and/or Microsoft 365 administration
  • On-premises infrastructure - VMware, Windows Server, LAN/WAN hardware
  • Security frameworks - familiarity with CMMC 2.0, NIST 800-171, or DFARS is a genuine differentiator
  • Microsoft Power Platform - PowerBI, Power Automate, or PowerApps experience
  • Networking basics - firewalls, switches, structured cabling; Cisco/CCNA knowledge is a bonus

Who thrives at QED:

The kind of person who figures things out. You communicate clearly, take ownership without being asked, and don't need a manager looking over your shoulder. You're comfortable jumping between tasks - one hour you're helping an employee with a laptop issue, the next you're working on a server config. You want real experience, not busywork.

Additional information about the role:

  • The start date is flexible
  • We can offer a 3-month or 6 month internship/co-op-starting in the summer and/or fall semester(s).
  • This is a fully on0site position at 1040 University Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607-Remote work will not be permitted for this role.
  • Transportation will be required to get to and from work.  No housing stipend is offered.

Estimated Pay Range: $22.00-$28.00.  The rate offered will be based on the candidate's level of education (year in school) as well as the skills and experience of the candidate.
