Overview
Synapse ITS is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Summer Intern to support the development of our industry-leading traffic and pedestrian safety products. This is a hands-on opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and contribute to products that help the visually impaired safely navigate the world.
You’ll gain exposure to the full product lifecycle, from design and prototyping through validation and production support, in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
What You’ll Do
You’ll support the engineering team with both new product development and improvements to existing designs.
- Assist with mechanical design updates and documentation for existing products
- Support CAD modeling and drawing updates using SolidWorks or similar tools
- Participate in prototype builds and testing activities
- Assist with design verification and validation efforts
- Help develop and document basic test procedures and results
- Support design and manufacturing reviews
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, and quality
- Assist with troubleshooting and identifying potential design improvements
- Take on additional projects that support the engineering team

Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Exposure to CAD tools (SolidWorks or similar) through coursework or projects
- Basic understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals
- Exposure to prototyping, testing, or manufacturing concepts is a plus
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Clear communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team
- Organized, detail-oriented, and motivated to learn
