Job DetailsJob Location: Des Moines, IA 50309Position Type: InternshipSalary Range: $0.01 - $0.01 HourlyJob Shift: DayJob Category: Internships PURPOSE   The Aftercare/YCA Intern supports youth and young adults transitioning to independence by assisting with case management activities, resource coordination, and program operations. This internship provides hands-on experience in trauma-informed care, community-based services, and youth advocacy within a supportive team environment.   Key Responsibilities Assist with intake processes and participant assessments Help identify and connect participants to community resources, primarily within the Polk County coverage area (and other areas as needed) Participate in team meetings and approved transition meetings Support outreach efforts and attend trainings as appropriate Shadow participant meetings and assist with case note documentation Observe billing processes with program leadership (monthly) Assist with development of intake packets and Aftercare program materials (e.g., binder creation) Support organization and distribution of donations, including identifying needed items Review and provide feedback on Aftercare and internal program policies as assigned Provide administrative support to the team as directed   What YOU are looking for: Exposure to youth mental health and trauma-informed practices Participation in Youth Mental Health training opportunities (when available) Shadowing professionals in community-based human services work Involvement in program development initiatives, including potential app development support Weekly one-on-one supervision with Practicum Instructor Gain valuable, hands-on experience within a nonprofit organization. Learn more about behind the scenes of Aftercare programs. Ability to work collaboratively, independently, and take initiative. Interest in young adults experiencing homelessness, transitional living programs, and YSS’ mission. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. All majors are accepted. The following majors are preferred: Human Services and related fields. Training, Supervision, and Benefits: Must attend an orientation to cover YSS policies regarding confidentiality, drug-free work environment, and mandatory child abuse reporting Bi-monthly meetings with supervisor; more meetings will be held if needed. Mandatory Reporter training and CPR/First Aid training must be completed  Qualifications
