JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences Southeast Agricultural Research and Education Center in Manheim, PA offers a paid summer internship for undergraduates. Approximately 40 hours per week, mid-May thru August. Candidates must have housing and transportation to and from the facility in Lancaster County.

 

Interns complete specific projects and daily departmental assignments, including but not limited to:

  • Work closely with professional staff experiencing firsthand day-to-day operation of the Research Center.
  • Support research: collect data, work with research teams and shadow graduate researchers in the field.
  • Experience best practices for production management and crop trials: assist in planning, planting, cultivating, harvesting, etc.
  • Training to safely operate and perform preventive maintenance on agricultural research equipment.    
  • Experience all aspects of the research facility, as well as other professional development opportunities, training, and workshops.

 

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
