About this position

Valero Energy, number 1 distributor of petroleum products in Quebec and the second largest refiner in the East of the country, is currently looking for a student to strengthen its Finance and Strategy team for the next summer season.

As a Finance and Strategy Analyst, you will collaborate with senior commercial management in Canada and the Northeastern United States to guide them in their decision-making process. You will also need to analyze current processes, identify inconsistencies and provide recommendations to optimize business activities.

Responsabilities

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the energy sector’s key catalysts and performance indicators.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly and monthly financial performance reports.
  • Participate in the forecasting, allocating and monitoring demand process.
  • Prepare strategic analyses based on quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Actively participate in the development of long-term financial plans (3-5 year strategic plan) and support strategic and investment initiatives.
  • Participate in improving processes and tools to increase quality, reliability and reduce report preparation time.
  • Support activities related to renewables fuels regulations by providing applicable solutions to improve the reporting process, and be the main point of contact for commercial issues.
  • Participate in the planning, organization and coordination of the annual budget process. 


  • Must be currently registered in a university program.
  • Bilingual (French-English), required.
  • Advanced knowledge of the MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint), required.
  • Knowledge of the SAP, AO, Power Query and of Power BI reporting software, an asset.
  • Able to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a changing work environment.
