Electrical/Automation Intern
The Opportunity:
The Electrical Intern will work closely with engineers and technicians to support a variety of projects. They will gain exposure to a wide range of engineering activities in a leading U.S. dredging company, gain hands-on mentoring from experienced electrical engineers, have networking opportunities within the company's Engineering and Operations teams and have a potential pathway to full-time opportunities upon graduation..
The Electrical Intern will be part of Great Lakes’ Plant and Equipment Department, supporting the Electrical Engineering Manager and the broader electrical engineering team. The position is based at our Houston, TX corporate office and may involve limited travel to project sites.
This internship offers challenge, variety, and exposure to a broad range of activities supporting the engineering and electrical needs of our fleet and operations across multiple project sites. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience with design, documentation, troubleshooting, and vendor coordination in a dynamic marine and construction environment.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
· Assisting in the design, control, and implementation of electrical systems for the fleet.
· Preparing and updating drawings, documentation, and proposals.
· Supporting vendor coordination and gathering technical data for project requirements.
· Assisting in the development of single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
· Supporting regulatory and compliance documentation.
· Assisting with troubleshooting and quality control of electrical equipment.
· Maintaining accurate records of drawings and software in GLDD’s electronic document system.
· Supporting on-site inspections and fieldwork under the guidance of the Electrical Engineering team.
· Following safe and compliant working procedures in all tasks.
Requirements
· Currently pursuing a BS in Electrical/Automation/Instrumentation Engineering or related field.
· Strong interest in the marine, heavy construction, or power systems industry.
· Basic understanding of electrical engineering concepts, codes, and safety standards.
· Familiarity with design software (AutoCAD preferred) and Microsoft Office applications.
· Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
· Ability to take initiative, work both independently and in a team environment.
· Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
· Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
