Job Summary
The Information Security (InfoSec) Intern will support the organization’s cybersecurity program by assisting the Vulnerability Management and Security Operations Center (SOC) teams. This internship provides hands-on exposure to cybersecurity operations, security monitoring, and vulnerability management processes within an enterprise environment. Interns will gain practical experience identifying security risks, supporting incident response activities, and learning how security tools and processes protect organizational systems and data. This position is designed for high school seniors through college students who are interested in pursuing careers in cybersecurity, information technology, or information security.
Essential Functions:
Assist the InfoSec team in supporting the organizations vulnerability management program, including reviewing vulnerability scan results and helping track remediation activities.
Support SOC operations by monitoring alerts and assisting analysts with the triage and documentation of potential security events.
Help maintain documentation related to security processes, procedures, and operational runbooks.
Assist with the analysis and tracking of security findings from vulnerability scanners and security tools.
Support the review and reporting of security metrics and dashboards.
Assist in reviewing system configurations against established security standards and policies.
Help maintain asset inventories and assist with identifying systems requiring security updates or patching.
Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and security awareness activities.
Perform other related tasks that support the Information Security program.
Required Qualifications:
High school junior/senior, recent high school graduate, or currently enrolled college student pursuing or interested in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Basic computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft operating systems and applications (Excel, Word, PPT, Power Automate, Scripting, etc.).
Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks with guidance from senior team members.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Availability to full-time during the internship period.
Currently attend a Maryland high school as a junior/senior
Currently attend a Maryland higher education institution
Graduated from a Maryland high school, but currently attend a non-Maryland higher education institution
Graduated from a Maryland high school, and is currently enrolled or graduated from a career technical training program
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic understanding of computer systems, networks, and operating systems.
Interest in cybersecurity, information technology, or digital risk management.
Ability to analyze information and identify patterns or anomalies.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow documented procedures.
Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts such as vulnerabilities, threats, and risk (preferred but not required).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
Willingness to learn new technologies and security tools.
Basic familiarity with tools such as spreadsheets, ticketing systems, or dashboards is helpful.

Background Check
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
Probation
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
