About The Company
Aspect Biosystems is a biotechnology company pioneering the development of Bioprinted Tissue Therapeutics (BTTs) to transform how we treat some of the most elusive diseases. Aspect’s BTTs are designed to replace, repair, or supplement biological function inside the body. Aspect is creating these next-generation cell therapies by applying its full-stack tissue therapeutic platform, which integrates proprietary AI-powered bioprinting technology, computational design tools, therapeutic cells, and advanced biomaterials. Aspect is advancing a pipeline of BTTs across multiple disease areas in the endocrine and metabolic space including diabetes, obesity, rare endocrine disorders, and liver disease. Aspect's pipeline development strategy involves both proprietary programs as well as strategic partnerships, including a collaboration with Novo Nordisk focused on diabetes and obesity.
About the Role

As a Biomaterials Co-op, you will be part of a multidisciplinary R&D team responsible for the chemistry/polymer chemistry required to produce biomaterials. In this role, you will provide support for the material formulations, bio-analytical assays, and polymer modification. This is an exciting opportunity for you to work closely with a team of engineers, cell biologists, and biomaterials experts, to develop bioprinted tissues that could transform the way we develop medicines and treat disease.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting development and functionalization of synthetic or natural polymers that support therapeutic cell function and tissue transplant suitability.
  • Formulating and characterizing bioinks, buffers and solutions to use in bioprinting processes for therapeutic applications.
  • Executing assays to characterize biomaterial formulations for physicochemical properties, printability, biological function, stability, and toxicity.
  • Executing morphometric, mechanical, and stability tests to characterize bioprinted hydrogels.
  • Creating experimental reports and presenting experiments to key stakeholders.
  • Documenting all work and following good documentation practice.
  • Assisting in troubleshooting and investigations, identifying ways to optimize procedures or documentation.

Qualifications

  • Education: You are a student enrolled in biomedical engineering, polymer chemistry, chemical engineering or similar programs.
  • Biomaterials Experience: You understand and know how to manipulate formulations and you have a passion for biomaterials, tissue engineering, or therapeutic tissue applications. Experience with 3D bioprinting would be highly beneficial.
  • Problem Solver: Demonstrated ability to identify innovative working solutions to problems with challenging constraints.
  • Effective Communicator: You have superior written and verbal communication skills. You are an active listener who can communicate to different audiences in diverse situations.
  • Detail oriented: You have outstanding attention to detail, and experimental and process rigor. You take pride in your work and strive for excellence in the work you do.

The hiring range for this role is $3,750 - $4,000 CAD, monthly. Our ranges are based on market data. Offered salaries will be based on a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. For candidates who exceed role requirements, we are open to exploring above-range offers.
