About the Role

Duration: 12-16 weeks, 20-25 hours per week (Part-time) 

Salary: $16.90 (Hourly)

Job Overview:

The Public Works Intern will gain hands-on experience in municipal public works operations and infrastructure management. This position provides an opportunity to learn about the planning, maintenance, and improvement of public infrastructure, including streets, utilities, facilities, and city services that support the City of McFarland.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with organizing and maintaining public works records, including work orders, maintenance logs, project documentation, and reports.
  • Support staff with field inspections, data collection, and basic project tracking related to city infrastructure.
  • Shadow Public Works professionals, including engineers, inspectors, and supervisors, to understand daily operations and project workflows.
  • Assist with mapping, inventory tracking, and documentation of city assets such as roads, signage, and utilities.
  • Help prepare summaries, reports, and presentations related to ongoing public works projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

•  Currently enrolled in an approved degree program 

•  GPA Requirement: 3.0 or higher

•  Residency: Must be in Kern County, local residency

Must have transcripts available for proof of enrollment
