A day in the life of an intern Portfolio Management

As part of the front office Portfolio Management team, your responsibility as an intern is to support the team to actively monitor the lending portfolio and optimize returns through strong analytics and capital velocity. You will be exposed to and work with different colleagues from several sectors, origination and advisory teams, Risk and Legal whilst aligning with back office / support teams. At the same time, the Portfolio Management team plays a key role in further optimizing our processes for regulatory readiness, operational effectiveness and portfolio optimization.

  • Support the team in managing all aspects of the lending transactions booked in the portfolio
  • Perform diligent and proactive credit monitoring through the review of financial covenants and operating performance
  • Identify and resolve of Early Warning Signals for a deterioration in credit quality
  • Monitor and identify market developments and manage their potential impact on your portfolio
  • Build a culture of operational excellence and support the implementation of strategic initiatives

How to succeed

As an intern, we expect you to

  • Follow a relevant masters’ degree in a relevant business discipline.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, demonstrated with good grades in relevant courses
  • Have an interest in the Energy, Infrastructure and/or Real Estate sector
  • Be an inclusive team player
  • Be a committed and dedicated individual who wants to continuously improve
  • Be fluent in English. French/Dutch is an advantage

The Team

The Portfolio Management team is the ‘center of excellence’ for the in-life management of ING’s lending exposure. It covers all activities after the initial funding to the final repayment of a lending transaction. As a front office department, you will closely collaborate with other colleagues and product specialists to ensure a seamless client experience. Each portfolio manager covers a set of clients and acts as the first point of contact for credit monitoring, analytics, internal risk and other reporting. Portfolio Management supports the identification of cross-buy opportunities and is also closely involved in the delivery of ING’s capital velocity targets. The team is supported by Global Lending Support in Dublin and the ING hub in the Philippines.
