About The Company
ING is a pioneer in digital banking and on the forefront as one of the most innovative banks in the world. As ING, we have a clear purpose that represents our conviction of people’s potential. We don’t judge, coach, or tell people how to live their lives. However big or small, modest or grand, we empower people and businesses to realise their vision for a better future. We made the promise to make banking frictionless, removing barriers to progress, and make people confident in their financial decisions. As a global bank we have a huge opportunity – and responsibility – to make an impact for the better. We can play a role by financing change, sharing knowledge, and innovating. Being sustainable is in all the choices we make—as a lender, as a partner and through the services we offer our customers
About the Role

[Internship for students currently enrolled in a Master’s degree, 5-6 months, Brussels]

Your work environment

The Finance department of our Bank is increasingly leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance reporting, analysis, and decision-making in a highly regulated environment. To accelerate this transformation, we are looking for a motivated AI & Automation Intern to help our teams adopt AI in their daily work and to contribute to more advanced use cases combining AI with automation tools.

You will join the Financial, ESG and Credit Risk Reporting team and work closely with finance professionals and data experts on real-life challenges such as workflow optimisation, reporting automation, and advanced analytics. You will gain hands-on experience at the intersection of Finance, Data and Technology—from ideation to prototype and rollout.

Your key responsibilities

We are looking for young talents who want to learn fast and create tangible impact. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate with colleagues across Finance, Risk, IT and Data to turn ideas into practical solutions that improve our ways of working.

As an AI Intern within Finance, you will:

  • Identify opportunities and co-design AI and data-driven use cases for financial, credit risk and ESG reporting
  • Support colleagues in adopting AI in their daily work (e.g., prompting best practices, reusable templates, quick trainings, user guides)
  • Build and test proofs of concept combining GenAI with automation tools (e.g., workflow automation, scripting, data pipelines) to remove manual effort and reduce errors
  • Analyse structured and unstructured information and turn it into clear outputs (insights, summaries, reconciliations, draft narratives, dashboards) while documenting assumptions and limitations
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure solutions meet governance, data security and regulatory requirements, and support the transition from prototype to sustainable solution

We look for

A student with a talent for taking it on and making it happen, enthusiasm for helping others to be successful and a knack for always being a step ahead. In other words, you strive to bring fresh ideas and you are a naturally collaborative person who listens and invests in others to achieve common goals. You are eager to propose creative solutions to problems.

You are currently:

  • A Master’s student (preferred) or final-year Bachelor student in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Econometrics, or a related quantitative field
  • Strong interest in applied AI and motivation to work on concrete business processes (Finance / Risk / ESG)
  • Analytical mindset and ability to translate business questions into structured problem statements and practical solutions
  • Curious, proactive, and comfortable working both independently and with diverse stakeholders
  • Fluent in English (French and/or Dutch is an asset)
  • Nice to have: programming skills (e.g., Python, SQL), familiarity with AI/ML libraries, and/or experience with automation tools

We offer you

  • A hands-on internship with real impact in a leading financial institution
  • Exposure to GenAI and advanced analytics in a regulated banking environment (governance and security by design)
  • Close collaboration with experienced professionals in Finance, Risk and Data
  • Mentorship and feedback to grow your technical skills (problem framing, prototyping, documentation, stakeholder management)
  • A dynamic, international and learning-oriented environment in Brussels
  • The opportunity to leave with concrete deliverables (POCs, documentation, reusable assets) and be coached for your next professional step
