POSITION SUMMARY:

The Research and Development (R&D) Intern will collaborate closely with the R&D team and will perform a variety of laboratory tasks. These tasks include product development, bench-top work, documenting and analyzing results, and providing detailed reports to their direct manager. This position will be assisting with formulation development and delivery, fulfilling sample request orders, and supporting product development through analytical testing and product evaluation. Additionally, the R&D Intern will be involved in projects such as shelf-life testing and sensory/stability evaluations. This position will also be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment and managing R&D supplies. The R&D Intern reports to the Senior Food Scientist.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Assist with bench-top formulation, shelf-life studies, and other product development activities.

· Support sample request fulfillment for domestic and international markets.

· Document, analyze, and report results using data capture sheets, test summaries, and reports.

· Participate in cross-functional teams or project task forces as needed.

· Perform general laboratory support duties, including maintaining equipment and supplies.

· Complete other assigned projects as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS:

· 0-3 years of experience working in food manufacturing in a R&D capacity preferred; currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Microbiology or related field; Basic knowledge of beverage chemistry, formulation and labeling regulation preferred.

· Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with attention to detail

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently or as part of a team

· Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

· Work performed in office, laboratory, and manufacturing environment, which may be hot, humid, noisy, or dusty

· Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, perform hands-on laboratory work, and lift up to 50 lbs.

· Schedule is in office 5 days a week.

· Must reside in the Chicagoland area.
