About the Role

Overview

The Marketing & Communications Intern will support the Communications team in executing day‑to‑day marketing, branding, and internal/external communication initiatives for Shimmick and Axia Electric. This role is designed for a student looking to gain hands‑on experience in social media management, content creation, brand development, and corporate communications within a fast‑paced environment. This position will be required to be onsite in our Irvine, CA office.

Responsibilities

Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional.

 

  • Assist the Communication team with planning, drafting, and scheduling social media content across platforms for Shimmick and Axia Electric.
  • Help gather photos, videos, and project updates to support content creation and audience engagement.
  • Create basic graphics using Canva or similar tools under guidance from the Communications Specialist.
  • Support brand development activities, including preparing materials for new brand rollouts and updating existing brand assets.
  • Ensure brand consistency by helping review templates, graphics, and internal document
  • Help maintain and update corporate websites by uploading new content such as project milestones, employee spotlights, and company news.
  • Assist with organizing and posting updates to SharePoint or other internal communication platforms.
  • Coordinate with departments such as Safety, HR, IT, and Payroll to collect information needed for newsletters, announcements, and campaigns.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursing a Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, public relations, media studies or related field with the intent to continue enrollment after an internship.
  • Must have completed at least 1 year of study

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A university student that has more than one year of school remaining before earning a degree preferred, these students typically are Freshmen, Sophomores, or Juniors in university.  Successful Interns may be eligible to return for additional internships
  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite
  • strong problem-solving skills and consistent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage changing deadlines and work well under pressure for multiple team leaders
  • Work independently and effectively to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • This position is required to be onsite at our Irvine, CA office. 
  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States Work Authorization.
  • The salary for this position is $26.00 per hour. 
  • A Housing Stipend is available to those who qualify.
