About Our Job

ASL Program Support Intern – Human Rights and Community Partnerships

This unpaid internship is designed for an individual fluent in ASL who is interested in learning how accessibility services are coordinated within HRCP Access for All Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS). The intern will shadow the Program Coordinator and Program Administrator to understand how ASL Interpreting and CART services are scheduled, how community support is managed, and how outreach, resource development, and administrative operations function within a government accessibility division.

Location & Schedule

The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field several days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days. 

What You’ll Do

As an Intern, you will work on various projects and tasks to help you understand the ASL Support Program.

As an ASL Program Support Intern you will have the opportunity to experience:

  • Support scheduling and coordination of ASL interpreter and CART service requests, including communication tracking and confidentiality.
  • Assist with monitoring the DHHS inbox, routing inquiries, and drafting replies under supervision.
  • Observe VP public support and learn how referrals to city and community resources are handled.
  • Help create social media content and public information materials, including ASL‑accessible content.
  • Maintain and update the community resource directory and assist with basic data organization.
  • Assist with vendor documentation tasks, such as distributing and organizing paperwork.
  • Support community outreach by shadowing meetings and helping prepare materials for workshops and events.
  • Provide general administrative and project support, including organizing files, preparing materials, and helping with events.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language
  • Experience with administrative tasks or customer/community support.
  • Comfort using tools such as Teams, Zoom, Canva, and basic email platforms.
  • Familiarity with Deaf culture and the broader Deaf/Hard of Hearing community.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirement: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in Science, technology, engineering, mathematics or closely related field, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion).

Experience Requirement: None

Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.

License/Certification Requirement: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
