As an Intern - Software Engineer (Systems), you would participate in product design, development, verification, troubleshooting, and delivery of a system or major subsystems for our flagship storage operating system, ONTAP. These positions require individuals to be creative, team-oriented, technology savvy, driven to produce results and demonstrates the ability to take a cross-team leadership role. 


 
About ONTAP: ONTAP is a powerful platform known for its advanced data management capabilities, supporting mission-critical applications worldwide. As an Intern - Software Engineer (Systems), you will be part of a talented team responsible for developing, testing, and debugging software that powers NetApp’s cloud, hybrid-cloud, and on-premises solutions.
 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with the team on new feature development and engineering escalations
  • Participate in all phases of the product development cycle: definition, design, implementation, debugging, testing, and early customer support
  • Work closely with team members and other teams to understand customer needs and deliver solutions
  • Solve technical issues collaboratively with other engineers

Job Requirements

Our intern work differs depending on the team and project work but some potential areas of focus and skill sets are: 

  • Basic knowledge of system software design and development
  • Hands-on experience with C and C++
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux System Programming and Multithreaded programming
  • Understanding of OS internals, algorithms, and data structures
  • Experience in the Storage Domain is a plus

 

 
Other helpful skillsets: 

  • Projects, experiences, or coursework related to areas such as: Operating Systems, Computer Architecture, Multi-Threading, Data Structures & Algorithms 
  • Proven aptitude for learning new technologies 
  • Creative and analytical approach problem solving skills 
  • Strong oral and written communication is necessary for success 
  • Ability to work on a diverse team or with a diverse range of people 

Education

Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or enrolled in a related professional program through the summer of 2026.
