About the Role

Taylor Hobson is recruiting for an IT Applications Student to join the Business Unit in Leicester, United Kingdom for a 12 month placement.


Key Responsibilities

Developing, maintaining, administering, and supporting Taylor Hobson business applications, systems and databases. These consist of but are not limited to:

  • Web Applications: Technologies used to develop our core web applications include HTML 5.0, JavaScript, JQuery, ASP.Net MVC, VB.Net/C#, React, Power Apps and SQL Server 2014/2016.  Our data driven web applications are accessible via our Microsoft SharePoint 365 Intranet.

  • Data Management:  Numerous Taylor Hobson SQL Server databases are hosted on-premise in the Leicester IT Data Centre. Power BI, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and Jet Enterprise are used to develop the essential Business Intelligence required by the business. The successful candidate will work with data extensively and gain real life marketable skills and experience with working with some of these key technologies.

  • Advancing the progression of current IT projects.

  • Aiding in general IT tasks and support where required.

  • Adding value to the Business Applications Team and IT department.

  • Creating training ‘How-To’ videos and End User guides for newly developed applications and functionality.


Requirements for Consideration

  • Education – Two years completed of a recognised IT degree course which includes both a programming and database element and requires a year placement as part of the final degree assessment. On track for at least 2:1. Good standard of education to at least ‘A’ level or equivalent plus English (language) and Mathematics to at least GCSE (Grades 5-9) standard or equivalent.

  • IT SKILLS – Working expertise in the use of standard IT packages such as Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel including formula manipulation, PowerPoint and Access) and good technical knowledge around networking protocols and the Internet.

  • Databases – A solid understanding of database design and management techniques including querying, sorting, extracting, importing and exporting data.

  • Web – A sound understanding of web design and development, and competent programming skills including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ASP.NET MVC, VB/VB.NET/C# and Visual Studio. Experience with REST APIs, JQuery, Full Stack web development, web frameworks such as bootstrap and reactJS and any experience using Git and version control would be highly advantageous.

  • Ability to communicate with a range of different people in different levels of the company and global group.
