THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE:

The READI Intern supports organization wide Reconciliation, Equity, Anti Racism, Diversity and Inclusion (READI) initiatives that advance a safe, inclusive, and high performing culture.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, READI, the Intern, READI will contribute to internal communications, workshop design, facilitation support, recruitment and HR implementation, policy review and development, and light project management that connects READI practice to employees, leadership, the Board, donors, and domestic and global partners. The role helps translate strategy into practical tools, communications, and actions aligned with SCC values.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Drafted it, and publish READI internal communications for SCCentral, newsletters, email updates, slide decks, and meeting briefs that are accessible and aligned with brand and values.
  • Create workshop content for employees, people leaders, and the Board, including slide decks, facilitator notes, pre reads, and post session summaries. 
  • Support facilitation in meetings and learning sessions by managing agendas, timing, group activities, notes, and follow up actions.
  • Assist with implementation of recruitment and HR initiatives such as French language inclusion, inclusive job postings, interview question banks, selection rubrics, and onboarding materials. 
  • Supporting a policy audit from a READI lens using SCC frameworks and legal references,
  • then document findings and recommendations. 
  • Supporting drafting and formatting new or revised policies and procedures with plain language, accessibility, and implementation guidance. 
  • Track tasks, timelines, and risks for READI projects using simple project tools and provide weekly status updates. 
  • Coordinate logistics for learning sessions and interest holder engagements, including invitations, rooms or virtual links, materials, and feedback surveys. 
  • Compile and visualize light data on participation, feedback, and progress to inform continuous improvement. 
  • Research promising practices on reconciliation, accessibility,anti racism, gender equality, psychological safety, and localization to inform content and policy updates.
  • Support donor, domestic partner, and global partner engagement materials by tailoring READI summaries, good practice notes, and case examples as needed. 
  • Uphold safeguarding, privacy, and accessibility requirements in all work products and interactions.

Qualifications include (but are not limited to):

  • This position is funded by the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Job Program. To be eligible, youth must:
  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canadain accordance withrelevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • be a post-secondary student returning to school in the Fall.
  • Note: International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
  • Youth facing barriers to employment will be prioritized.

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant program such as social sciences, public policy, social work, equity studies, human resources, political science, Indigenous studies, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated interest or coursework in equity, anti racism, accessibility, gender equality, Indigenous reconciliation, and/or organizational development.
  • Ability to write clearly for different audiences and to create structured slide decks, communications, and facilitation materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan tasks, track details, and follow through in afast movingenvironment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills to build strong working relationships across cultural and organizational settings.
  • Demonstrated project management skills supported by proficiency with MS Office tools and willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Displays analytical and problem solving skills and adaptability to support change and implementation.
  • Applies judgment and makes sound decisions that are accountable, justifiable, and aligned with SCC policies.
  • Familiarity with accessibility and plain language guidelines for documents and presentations is an asset. 
  • Knowledge of French and/or an Indigenous language spoken in Canada (e.g. Anishinaabemowin, Inuktitut, Cree,Michif) is an asset.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • This position will be paid $20.00 CAD per hour. 
  • 35 hours per week. 
  • Duration: June 1 to July 24, 2026 (8 weeks).
