Position Summary:
The Safety Intern will support the Safety Department in a manufacturing environment by assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of workplace safety programs. This internship provides hands-on experience in occupational safety and health, regulatory compliance, and hazard prevention. The intern will work closely with the Safety Coordinator and Safety Manager to complete key safety projects, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and daily safety and fire prevention audits.
This position is designed to provide practical, real-world safety experience while developing technical, analytical, and professional communication skills.
Essential Functions:
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Program Support
- Assistinidentifyingequipment requiring LOTO procedures
- Observe equipment operation, shutdown, and energy isolation methods
- Identifyand document hazardous energy sources (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, etc.)
- Draft clear, standardized LOTO proceduresin accordance withOSHA 29 CFR 1910.147
- Capture and organize photo documentation for procedures
- Review procedures with maintenance, operations, and safety leadership for accuracy
Job Safety Analysis (JSA) Development
- Collaborate with supervisors and operators toobservejob tasks and processes
- Break down jobs into logical task steps
- Identifypotential hazards associated with each task
- Recommendappropriate engineering, administrative, and PPE controls
- Document findings using company JSA templates
- Assistwith communication and training related to completed JSAs
Daily Safety & Fire Prevention Audits
- Conduct daily safety and fire prevention inspections throughout the facility
- Identifyunsafe conditions, behaviors, and fire hazards
- Document findings and corrective actions
- Follow up on open items to ensuretimelyresolution
- Assistwith tracking trends and recurring issues
Additional Duties
- Shadow the Safety Coordinator during safety walks, meetings, and investigations
- Assistwith safety data entry, recordkeeping, and documentation
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions
- Support special safety projects as assigned
- Comply withall company safety rules and procedures at all times

Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in:
- Occupational Safety & Health
- Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)
- Industrial Safety
- Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field
- Basic knowledge or interest in workplace safety and OSHA regulations
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels
- Willingness to learn and follow safety rules in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to walk production areas, climb stairs, and wear required PPE
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion or pursuit of OSHA 10‑Hour General Industry training
- Familiarity with manufacturing or industrial environments
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong writing and documentation skills
