About the Role

Description

The Lorain County Metro Parks is looking for an experienced, motivated, and committed individual to join the Naturalist Department at the Carlisle Visitor Center in providing quality animal care to our wildlife program ambassadors, outdoor native plant garden, and subsequent programming. Ideal candidates for the position should have previous experience working with and providing care for captive live animals, preferably reptiles and raptors. Qualified candidates will be offered 32 hours a week, with some evening, weekend, and holiday hours as necessary. This individual must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in all seasons.


This internship runs July - December 2026. The start date can be flexible depending on the chosen candidate's availability.


RATE OF PAY: $12/hour

Requirements

We are looking for creative, active, and motivated individuals. It is imperative for this individual to be invested in the professional care and management of wildlife program ambassador animals and public education regarding local wildlife. Working knowledge of positive reinforcement training and a focus on animal welfare is also preferred. Applicants must have the ability to work in a team-oriented environment with staff and volunteers alike. Excellent communication skills are vital, effective public speaking preferred. The ability to work on multiple tasks (sometimes independently) and adapt to change is important. Knowledge of the use of basic power tools for exhibit maintenance a plus.


Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license. New employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. Lorain County Metropolitan Park District policy prohibits hiring new employees who are tobacco users.
