About the Internship: Foothill Credit Union's internship program provides college students with hands-on experience in financial services, with a focus on Consumer Lending. The Intern will gain practical knowledge and skills essential for a career in Lending, working closely with experienced professionals on key projects and daily operations. Foothill Credit Union’s mission is to “improve members’ financial health by providing an exceptional member experience.” Interns are expected to represent the Credit Union in a professional, helpful, and friendly manner.
Essential Duties, Training, and Responsibilities: The Consumer Lending Intern will support the Consumer Lending department, collaborating with the team on key functions and projects. The intern position duties, responsibilities, and requirements represent the basic responsibilities during the internship cycle. However, supervisor(s) may assign additional functions and requirements as deemed appropriate.
Loan Processing and Support:
- Assist with consumer loan application intake and documentation review
- Support loan file preparation and ensure completeness of required documents
- Identify and resolve discrepancies or missing information in loan applications
- Communicate with members to provide updates and request additional information
- Assist with reviewing credit reports and verifying applicant information
- Support funding and booking of consumer loans
- Maintain accurate loan records and assist with document retention
- Keep Consumer Loan Supervisor informed of workflow status and any issues
- Provide general administrative and operational support to the lending team
Training and Development:
- Receive formal and informal training through online modules, hands-on practice, and direct mentorship
- Gain exposure to consumer lending policies, underwriting basics, and compliance requirements
- Participate in structured feedback sessions to enhance learning and performance
Requirements
Qualifications and Skills Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a finance, business, or related college program
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with financial data
- Interest in consumer lending and financial services
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional setting
- Proficient in verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Aptitude for detail and ability to perform in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Self-motivated and frequently demonstrates initiative
- Ability to use discretion when handling confidential information
- Solid interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent time management skills and reliable attendance
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite
