Position: Electrical Engineer Intern

Primary Objective of Position:


The Electrical Engineer is responsible for electrical design of motors, generators and magnetic drives. The Electrical Engineer reviews the customer specifications to determine the machine size and selects the correct design to meet the customer applications. The Electrical Engineer creates the machine winding specifications, selects winding materials, and products motor / generator data sheets and performance curves. The Electrical Engineer is involved in all stages of the customer order: sales, design, manufacturing, assembly, test, and field services. Provides close shop support to assure minimum cost and defect-free machines. Responsible for process improvements, reducing manufacturing costs, and enhance product quality.  Also, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for collaboration and sharing of best Electrical Engineering practices within the WEG Company.


Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Must be an enthusiastic self-starter, able to organize and pursue broad objectives. Strong people skills and the ability to      manage multiple, changing priorities. Support and implement process improvements which enhance the company’s responsiveness and profitability.
  • Provides support to Marketing on inquiries and new orders to assure technical and economic feasibility.
  • Determine project schedules to complete projects in required time.
  • Select materials and purchased components to best meet customer requirements at the lowest cost.
  • Provide input to management for financial planning, capital planning, and product development.
  • Provide effective project management for product development.
  • Write and review specifications, Material Specifications, Process Specification, and project reports. Prepares technical reports in conjunction with project assignments. Maintains records of engineering data and test results.
  • Provide direction to engineers, drafters, and other support personnel as required to successfully complete projects.
  • Provide technical support to other departments as required resolving technical issues to meet special customer requirements.
  • Review manufacturing methods and determine the most efficient designs for manufacturability.
  • Provide technical direction in product development and make technical decisions based on sound engineering practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, evaluate, and solve complex issues of technical content with guidance and technical support.
  • Able to perform and understand FEA analysis and develop design roles and guidelines (preferred)
  • Review customer’s specification and offer technical advice.
  • Electrical engineer must direct standardization and design rules for models that will substantially reduce design cost and time for products and systems. 
  • Develop new engineering tools that facilitate the design process and reduce design lead times, insure calibration of design      programs with test data.
  • Review Design Standard and Procedures to determine which standard need to be revised or new procedures as well as      updating of old procedures.
  • Perform other activities related to the ones above as required by the Leader, Manager of Engineering or Director of      Engineering

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • BS degree in progress electrical engineering required from an accredited college or university. Specifically, coursework in motors, drives, and high voltage power electronics is preferred. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering operating systems within the department and understanding of how      engineering interfaces with other departments.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of any programing language
  • Strong people skills and the ability to manage multiple and changing priorities.

Salary

Starting at $21.00 to $22.50 per hour
