Critical Environment Technician INTERN

Responsibilities
- Performs assigned basic tasks, including routine monitoring and visual inspection of critical facility equipment.
- Uses the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track equipment assets and complete maintenance work orders.
- Assists with emergency monitoring and response under supervision, following established emergency operating procedures (EOPs).
- Performs various types of maintenance and conducts basic troubleshooting independently, with support for complex issues as needed.
- Escorts third-party contractors and vendors on site in accordance with established levels of risk (LOR) procedures.
- Prepares and submits required reports and develops an understanding of method statements of work (MSOW).
- Follows and ensures compliance with all safety and security requirements.
Qualifications
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree or technical program in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Facilities Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field, with a demonstrated interest in mission‑critical infrastructure, data center operations, or facilities engineering
- Strong safety focus and attention to detail, with the ability to follow strict procedures (including PPE), identify and report abnormal conditions, and demonstrate a growth mindset with eagerness to learn and accept feedback
- Basic proficiency with computer systems and digital tools, and the ability to work effectively in a hands‑on, team‑based operational environment
- Currently enrolled in Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA)'s Engineering Technology Career Scholars Program.
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Coursework, labs, or hands‑on exposure to electrical systems, mechanical systems, HVAC, generators, UPS, or building automation systems
- Prior internship, co‑op, lab, or work experience in facilities, utilities, manufacturing, construction, or technical operations
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance concepts, standard operating procedures, or technical checklists
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work alongside technicians, engineers, and cross‑functional partners
- Interest in pursuing a long‑term career in Critical Environments or Data Center Operations, including continued technical qualification and development
This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
