About the Role

In this role, the perspective intern will work closely with project managers and other team members to execute work involving utility engineering principals and other related activities. You will assist with planning, design and construction efforts on a variety of engineering projects with a focus on utility improvement, relocation, and coordination.  Utility design development will include overhead and underground cable aspects as well as other pipe and conduit elements that include water, sewer, telecommunication, cable TV, fiber optics, gas, steam, chilled water and electric power feeders. 

Our interns will receive on-the-job training, mentorship and insight into various aspects of the consulting engineering industry from design to field work and client management. Individuals will be exposed to various challenges, projects and technology related to their specific discipline.

As a Paid Intern in our Utility Division, you will

  • Review technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents related to utility design
  • Review design calculations, drawings, and specifications for utility design improvement and relocation projects
  • Participate in community project outreach with a focus on utilities.
  • Review technical information to support planning and design related to infrastructure systems
  • Assist with the creation of CADD diagrams to show existing and proposed conditions

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or related area
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Participation in professional societies or extracurricular activities
  • Applicable prior internship experience
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation and/or GIS
