About The Company
Frontier Behavioral Health (FBH) was formed in 2011 with the merger of two long-standing organizations: Spokane Mental Health (since 1970) and Family Service Spokane (since 1905). Combined, FBH has more than 100 years of experience providing behavioral healthcare services in Spokane County. FBH is the lead service provider of Crisis Response Services in the region and provides 24-hour crisis intervention services and Involuntary Treatment Act evaluations. FBH serves more than 16,000 clients a year with a staff of more than 700 and provides a full range of services to people of all ages including Children and Youth, Adults, and Elders. While the majority of services are provided in an outpatient setting, FBH also operates 48 inpatient beds where Evaluation & Treatment, and Stabilization services are provided. Other services provided by FBH include Peer Support, Crisis Services, services in Nursing Homes, Schools, and for the Homeless. FBH also operates a Clubhouse and Vocational Rehab/Employment services.

PART TIME: .5 FTE - 20 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Schedule will be determined by (1) Agency needs and (2) School Schedules of Cohorts and thus, may fluctuate.

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Clinical Education, the Intern Instructor is responsible for oversight, design, and implementation of a Bachelor’s-level internship in community behavioral health and FBH models of practice and service delivery, using a cohort model. The Intern Instructor will also collaborate with faculty in area universities to ensure that interns’ academic learning objectives are met.      

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Collaborate with Supervisor of Clinical Education on design of bachelor’s-level internship program, to include activities/seminars that both satisfy university-required learning outcomes and immerse interns in all dimensions of community behavioral health.

  • Collaborate with Supervisor of Clinical Education to promote internship program at local universities, including participation in internship fairs, respond to individual student inquiries, or speaking in classes as requested.

  • Oversee and implement recruitment, application, and interview of applicants; to include emailing application materials to applicants, scheduling/conducting interviews, responding to successful and unsuccessful applicants. 

  • With Human Resources staff, bring interns on board by completing required paperwork (e.g., NEW form, IT contact, etc.).

  • Collaborate with designated university faculty advisors and SCE to ensure internship program design and elements satisfy university academic requirements.

  • Collaborate with interns’ faculty advisors on design, application process, student learning contract writing, student evaluation and, as needed, conflict resolution.

  • Create schedule of intern activities in consultation with faculty advisors.

  • Complete each intern’s university Learning Contract, with faculty input.

  • Design internship seminars and other activities that promote learning in the comprehensive, multi-disciplinary nature of FBH (e.g., outpatient services for various age groups, medication management, partial hospitalization, crisis intervention, co-deployed teams, themes/models of practice, evidence-based care, etc.).

  • Collaborate with program directors to recruit hosts in various program areas to orient interns to their program’s work.

  • Provide individual supervision for each intern weekly and maintain log.

  • Provide group supervision or group case seminars on a routine basis.

  • Recruit CARE Model clinical staff for shadowing opportunities.

  • Provide opportunities for interns to learn and develop professional behaviors (e.g., role-playing, seminars, observation).

  • Support interns in reflection on their personal professional development. 

  • Evaluate intern learning on a quarterly basis, in conjunction with faculty advisor.

  • Provide support and cross coverage with the training academy facilitators as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:

REQUIRED:

  • Master’s degree in psychology, mental health counseling, social work, or related field and two years of experience providing behavioral health treatment services.

  • DOH Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Marriage Family Therapist or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate level and/or facilitating staff learning opportunities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design.

  • Ability to work independently and on a team.

  • Skill and ability to facilitate group learning events (e.g., seminars)

  • Proficiency in technology, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.

  • Able to communicate and engage effectively with people of varied backgrounds, traumatic experiences, cultures, education levels, socioeconomic status.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of all facets of community behavioral care clinical practice, inc. DSM-5 TR diagnoses, therapies (e.g., CBT, DBT, MI), care-planning, documentation, system of care

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize among multiple tasks.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.

  • Work is generally performed in an office setting which may involve sitting and use of computers for four to eight hours per day.

  • Blood-borne Pathogen Category IV - No exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

PAY RANGE (Hourly/ Non-Exempt):$35.55-42.88

  •  All pay is based on longevity at Frontier Behavioral Health; thus the starting pay for this position is as follows: $35.55 per hour.
