How You’ll Make an Impact
Valvoline Global is seeking a motivated Mechanical Lab Intern to join our team at the Ashland Automotive Propulsion Laboratory. This internship offers hands-on experience in a dynamic automotive testing environment focused on internal combustion engines, powertrain components, and vehicle-level testing. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and technicians, supporting real-world research and development projects that help drive innovation in automotive lubricant performance.

 

Responsibilities Include

  • Assist technicians and engineers with maintenance, repairs, and system installations
  • Help design and set up testing components and mechanical assemblies
  • Support setup, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and data acquisition systems
  • Participate in hands-on problem-solving and diagnostics across test environments
  • Maintain accurate documentation including maintenance logs, test data, and technical observations
  • Provide general technical support as needed within the lab
  • Follow all safety protocols and company procedures in a lab/testing setting
     

What You’ll Need

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and tools
  • Familiarity with measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
  • Experience or interest in 3D CAD modeling, 3D printing, or data acquisition systems is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and general computer use
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment
  • Solid problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, walk, climb, and stand for extended periods
