About the Role

The candidate will join CME Group's Washington, D.C. office for a high-impact opportunity at the intersection of global finance and public policy. This program provides a deep dive into the futures and derivatives industry, offering strategic training with hands-on advocacy. Interns will support the legislative and regulatory teams in navigating the D.C. landscape, gaining direct exposure to the policy-making process that powers the world’s leading derivatives marketplace.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Legislative Tracking: Attend and summarize Congressional hearings, markups, and industry briefings.

  • Regulatory Monitoring: Track CFTC/SEC developments and draft reports for internal leadership.

  • Strategic Research: Conduct deep-dive analysis on emerging policy issues (e.g., market structure, prediction markets, or 24/7 operations) to support CME Group’s positions.

  • Market Proficiency: Complete internal "Futures Fundamentals" and trading courses to master the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA) framework.

  • Capstone Project: Execute a high-priority research assignment and present strategic findings to the Government Relations leadership team.

Actual pay offered will be dependent on a wide array of factors including but not limited to: relevant experience, skills, education, location of the internship, and the internship area of focus.
