Position Summary

The Engineering Intern gains hands-on experience in a shipbuilding engineering environment by supporting technical projects and documentation under the guidance of experienced engineers. This role is designed to build foundational engineering skills through exposure to real-world design, testing, and engineering processes.

 

Domestic travel may be required.

 

Essential Functions

  • Assist engineers with technical deliverables, including development of drawings, calculations, reports, and responses to customer comments
  • Support engineering design and drafting activities, including 2D drawing development, 3D modeling, and defining material requirements for assigned projects
  • Assist with testing activities, including preparation, dockside testing, and sea trials as needed
  • Collaborate with engineering staff on assigned projects while following all organizational standards and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills
  • Must have strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
  • Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMG and have high values for safety awareness

 

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent and enrolled in a university or college with a goal of achieving an engineering degree

Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally stand or walk; use hands and arms to grasp, reach and type; stoop or kneel; and speak or hear. The position is primarily performed in a quiet, climate-controlled environment with minimal exposure to moving equipment, elements, or risk of injury.
