About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate OMHC Mental Health Intern to join our team. This internship offers an invaluable opportunity for individuals pursuing a career in mental health to gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping others and eager to learn about various therapeutic approaches, including art therapy, medicine management, and gender issues counseling. This position is designed for those looking to enhance their skills while contributing positively to the mental health community.
Responsibilities
- Assist licensed mental health professionals in providing support to clients through individual and group sessions.
- Participate in the development and implementation of treatment plans tailored to clients’ needs.
- Conduct assessments and document client progress under supervision.
- Facilitate art therapy sessions, encouraging creative expression as a therapeutic tool.
- Engage in discussions regarding medicine management, providing educational resources to clients about medication management.
- Address gender issues counseling by fostering an inclusive environment that respects diverse identities and experiences.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions with clients.
- Attend regular supervision meetings and participate in training sessions to enhance professional development.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant degree program (e.g., psychology, social work, counseling).
- Strong interest in mental health practices and a desire to learn about various therapeutic modalities.
- Experience or coursework related to art therapy is preferred but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of psychopharmacology concepts is advantageous.
- Understanding of gender issues and sensitivity towards diverse populations is essential.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with clients.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also demonstrating initiative and independence when required.
- Commitment to always maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
