Through a merger in 1998, Children's Inn, a domestic violence shelter established in 1977, became a program of CHS. CHS provides emergency shelter, residential treatment and special education for children, forensic interviews and examinations for children, foster care and adoption services, and prevention services. In addition to serving victims of child abuse and domestic violence, CHS also partners with caring parents to help children with emotional or behavioral issues. Salary: $20.00/hour + up to a $2/hour shift differential



Schedule:

Monday-Fridays daytime/evening hours (depending on client/operational needs)

*CHS will work with you on schedule to accommodate school requirements



Position Overview:

Children’s Home Society of South Dakota is seeking a Master's Level Intern to provide individual and group therapy to children, adults, and families within CHS programs (Residential, Day School and Outpatient Services). What You’ll Do:

  • Therapy Services: Provide evidence-based practices for delivering therapy to children, adults and families including case management, through individual sessions, group therapy, milieu treatment for clients within CHS programs.


  • Communication and Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of clients progress, treatment plans and clinical notes in compliance with organizational policies and regulations. Develop individualized Master Treatment Plans, prepare Quarterly Treatment Plan reviews and Discharge Summaries with treatment team. Maintain communication and work in cooperation with referral agencies.


  • Transitional Services: Help support discharge planning by finding community resources, identifying outpatient services, making referrals, and preparing recommendations for ongoing care. 


  • Child Supervision: Provide supervision and management of children as necessary.


  • Professional Development: Attend required annual training. Participate in clinical supervision and peer consultation to enhance professional development and ensure best practices.

Requirements


Education:

  •  Bachelor's degree required
  • Currently enrolled in a Master's program working towards a counseling or social work degree.


Physical Demands and Work Environment: Residential environment focused on care of children with behavioral issues. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
