About the Role

The North Carolina Biotechnology Center’s Life Science Economic Development (LSED) team seeks a current undergraduate student to assist our team. This will be an excellent learning experience for the incumbent. The selected candidate must live in North Carolina. This is a flexible hybrid role with in-office expectations not to exceed 75% of hours.

Pay: $20/hour

Duration: <29 hr/week between May-August 2026 

Schedule: Flexible, M-F (~50% Hybrid)

Essential Duties:

The primary focus of this role will be to assist the LSED team in the strategy and execution of our K-12 STEM Outreach initiatives, while supporting other workforce and economic development programs as needed. Key areas of focus for the LSED intern will include:

  • Organize and summarize data to assess program effectiveness and inform decisions about K-12 outreach strategy.
  • Assisting in reviewing and analyzing NIIMBL bioLOGIC survey responses to identify trends, gaps, and areas of opportunity in serving teachers and students across North Carolina.
  • Support the maintenance and refresh of STEM Outreach PowerPoint presentations.
  • Conduct research to identify key events, workforce initiatives, and life sciences opportunities relevant to teachers and students for inclusion in the monthly NIIMBL bioLOGIC teacher newsletter.
  • Track data and engagement via HubSpot and Microsoft Teams documentation
  • Assist with other workforce and economic development programming as needed. Programs include the North Carolina Life Sciences Apprenticeship Consortium (NCLSAC), Accelerate NC Ambassador Program, and the Military Outreach Veterans Engagement (MOVE) program.

The ideal candidate will possess the following KSAs.

Knowledge:

  • Basic confidentiality of personal and sensitive information
  • Appropriate business etiquette in email, virtual, and in-person settings

Skills:

  • Clear verbal & written communication
  • Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, ZOOM

Ability:

  • Interact with a diverse group of professionals (internal & external)
  • Synthesize complex information into digestible communications for outreach
  • Quickly learn data-tracking systems such as HubSpot
