Position Summary:

The AI Research team works at the intersection of artificial intelligence and finance, building research-driven capabilities that help improve how investment teams discover, evaluate, reason about, and learn from complex financial information. We focus on applied AI problems such as trustworthy reasoning, retrieval and evidence synthesis, multimodal understanding of financial documents, learning from historical outcomes, and human-AI collaboration in high-stakes workflows.

This internship is an opportunity to work on meaningful AI research problems with real-world relevance. The intern will contribute to exploratory research, prototyping, and evaluation efforts that support our broader AI research agenda. Depending on project needs, the intern may help investigate topics such as reasoning over financial evidence, uncertainty and trust in AI outputs, document and data understanding, retrieval and knowledge organization, and learning systems that improve over time.

This role is ideal for a student who is excited by both technical depth and practical impact. The intern will gain exposure to real financial use cases while working on applied AI problems that matter for decision support, knowledge reuse, and research innovation across the firm.

Team Culture:

Our team values curiosity, rigor, experimentation, and clear thinking. We work in a collaborative environment where research ideas are encouraged, assumptions are tested, and insights are shared openly. Team members partner across technical and business domains, combining perspectives from AI, data, engineering, and finance to solve real problems.

We aim to balance strong research fundamentals with practical usefulness. Interns can expect a supportive environment with mentorship, regular feedback, and opportunities to contribute ideas, prototype quickly (using AI tools), and learn how research translates into impact.

An intern in this department can expect to learn:

  • How applied AI research is conducted in a financial services environment
  • How to frame, test, and evaluate research questions related to trust, reasoning, learning, retrieval, and document intelligence
  • How to work with real-world financial data, documents, and workflows to build and assess AI prototypes

Key Responsibilities Can Include:

  • Assist with research, prototyping, and experimentation across applied AI topics relevant to finance
  • Contribute to literature reviews, technical notes, and research summaries to help the team compare approaches and identify promising directions
  • Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and business stakeholders to translate open-ended problems into testable research tasks
  • Present findings, prototypes, and recommendations in a clear and structured way

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree in computer science, data science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, finance, quantitative finance, or a related field
  • Strong programming skills in Python; familiarity with data analysis and machine learning workflows
  • Interest in applied AI research, especially topics such as reasoning, retrieval, NLP, multimodal systems, uncertainty, evaluation, or human-AI interaction
  • Comfort working with ambiguous problems and learning new technical concepts quickly
  • Interest in financial markets, investment research, or quantitative finance is a plus
