About The Company
Coastal Community Foundation works to create communities rich in equity, well-being and opportunity through industry partnerships, thought leadership and advocacy, and by engaging donors who wish to be part of positive changes in coastal South Carolina. As we address policy changes and other large-scale needs to advance equity in our region, we create an environment where donors can amplify the impact of their generosity. We invest millions of dollars through grantmaking, impact investing and scholarships each year. We are known for understanding and acting upon the dynamic needs of the communities we serve, with examples including our disaster response efforts during and after major storms such as Hurricane Florence, and the creation of the Lowcountry Unity Fund in the wake of the Mother Emanuel AME Church massacre to support causes addressing systemic racism. With a mission to foster philanthropy for the lasting good of the community, Coastal Community Foundation manages more than $480 million in assets and awarded more than $30 million in grants in 2023.

About Charleston Education Partners (CEP)

Charleston Education Partners (CEP) is a nonprofit organization working to ensure that every child in Charleston, especially those in historically underserved communities, has access to an excellent public school. CEP partners directly with schools and communities to support meaningful, sustained school improvement. Rather than implementing one-size-fits-all programs, CEP begins with a comprehensive needs assessment to understand each school’s unique strengths and challenges. From there, CEP works alongside school leaders, educators, and families to design and support solutions that may include strengthening instruction, improving school culture, building leadership capacity, and deepening family and community engagement.

CEP’s work is grounded in the belief that durable change happens when schools are supported holistically and in partnership with the communities they serve.

About the Role

CEP is seeking a highly motivated intern to support program development, parent and community engagement, and school-based work. This role is ideal for someone interested in education, equity, and systems-level school improvement. The intern will work closely with CEP leadership to support early-stage program design and implementation, particularly connected to CEP’s work with schools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support development of parent and family engagement strategies
  • Conduct research on best practices in school improvement, family engagement, and community partnerships
  • Assist in synthesizing findings from school needs assessments
  • Help translate research and data into clear, actionable insights
  • Support planning for school-based initiatives and community meetings
  • Assist with data tracking, progress monitoring, and basic reporting
  • Provide general support on projects related to CEP’s growth and partnerships

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong interest in education, equity, or community-based work
  • Strong writing, research, and analytical skills
  • Ability to synthesize information clearly and concisely
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage environment
  • Self-directed, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Interest in working directly with schools and communities

What You’ll Gain

  • Exposure to early-stage nonprofit and education systems work
  • Hands-on experience in program design and implementation
  • Opportunity to contribute to real school improvement efforts
  • Mentorship and close collaboration with CEP leadership
