JOB TITLE: Engineering Intern

REPORTING TO: Chief Engineer via the assigned Project Lead

Founded in 1955, Piasecki Aircraft Corporation (PiAC) is a research and development business specializing in design, fabrication and flight testing of experimental rotorcraft and unmanned air vehicles. Piasecki has developed and flown more than 25 different advanced VTOL and UAV aircraft and continues to develop cutting-edge vertical flight technologies. 

INTRODUCTION:

The Piasecki Aircraft Corporation Engineering Internship Program offers a unique opportunity for aspiring engineers to gain hands-on experience in the cutting-edge aerospace research and development industry. Taking place from May 2026 to August 2026, this program is designed to provide interns with meaningful exposure to real-world engineering projects, including design, analysis, and testing of innovative rotorcraft and unmanned aerial vehicle technologies.

Interns will work alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative environment, contributing to projects that advance the boundaries of aerospace engineering. Through mentorship, technical training, and team-based activities, participants will develop practical skills while gaining insight into the dynamic field of vertical flight technologies.

SUMMARY: 

The Piasecki Aircraft Corporation Engineering Intern will support engineering teams in the design, analysis, and testing of aerospace components and systems. This individual will gain practical experience in engineering processes, tools, and collaboration within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment. This internship is an opportunity to contribute to innovative aerospace projects while developing skills under the guidance of experienced engineers.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assist in drafting 3D CAD designs for aerospace components using SolidWorks.
  • Support engineering tasks related to the analysis and testing of mechanical and aerostructure systems.
  • Participate in trade studies and design reviews to optimize product configurations.
  • Contribute to the development of stress analysis models for structural components.
  • Collaborate with teams to route electrical harnesses or design mechanical mounting solutions.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical presentations and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support shop floor activities, including fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Perform data analysis and contribute to test set-ups for aerodynamic and mechanical systems.
  • Conduct research on materials and manufacturing techniques for project applications.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or other CAD software (academic or practical exposure preferred).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn.

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS / CLEARANCES:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Prior coursework in dynamics, material science, or structural analysis is a plus.
  • Must meet U.S. Government export control compliance requirements (U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).
