About the Role

Department Overview:

Easterseals Wisconsin’s AmeriCorps members provide direct personal care and lead therapeutic recreation activities for individuals with disabilities, youth transitioning to more independent living, and veterans and their families at Easterseals Wisconsin Camps.

Anticipated Hours Per Week

50-60 (overnight week long camp sessions)

Schedule:

The Respite Apprentice- will serve a minimum of 900 hours of service from May 2024- August 2024. This includes AmeriCorps orientation and General Camp Training (May 18-22 & May 28 - June 5) and then serving at least ten (10) weeks. Members are expected to serve at Respite Camp and Camp Wawbeek from Sunday 11am – Friday 4:00pm. Primary service site will be in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Salary/Wage Range:

Weekly $500.00 to $6,500.00

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Easterseals Wisconsin Camps – Summer Respite Apprentice (Counsolor) 

You will receive on-site training and orientation, a biweekly stipend throughout the summer, and an Education Award upon successful completion of term. You will serve closely with both general staff and volunteers to ensure that caregivers can rest easy while their loved ones are at camp, knowing that they will be surrounded by a professional and dedicated team.

Up to $10,197.50 in program benefits for fulfillment of your contract, plus on site room, board, and meals while at camp.

Details:

  • $6,500 Living Stipend broken into bi weekly payments
  • $3,697.50 Education Award upon successful completion of contract (2 training weeks and 10 weeks of camp)
  • Your Title: AmeriCorps Respite Apprentice
  • Previous experience working with people with disabilities is helpful, but not required.
  • Be prepared to serve long days, work as a part of a team, remain adaptable, open minded, and energetic.

AmeriCorps Respite Apprentices: will provide direct personal care and direct camper support for campers with disabilities at Camp Wawbeek and Respite Camp located in the Wisconsin Dells.

What to expect: Members receive both formal and informal training, including personal care, program facilitation, AmeriCorps orientation, CPR & First Aide, Ropes Course facilitation, Lifeguard Certification, conflict resolution training, and diversity training.

Camp Dates: You are expected to serve at camp from May 18, 2026- August 15, 2026. This includes serving at least ten (10) weeks at camp and two-weeks of training (May 18-22 and May 2 - June 5).

Qualifications:

Skill Requirements: Essential functions include the ability to: (1) lift 30 lbs to waist level, (2) physically assist both child and adult campers, (3) identify and respond to environmental or other hazards, (4) observe and assess for campers’ behavioral and physical well-being, (5) use expressive and receptive communication skills, and (6) enforce safety, emergency and behavior management techniques. The position requires eagerness to work with people with disabilities and an ability to work as a team member, with minimum supervision, and to perform all position duties.
