About the Role

The Derivatives Clearing Design section at Eurex Clearing AG designs, implements, and maintains clearing functionalities for listed and OTC derivatives across global markets. The team also ensures Eurex Clearing’s compliance with international regulatory transaction reporting requirements like EMIR, MiFIR, and Dodd-Frank. We work at the intersection of financial product design, quantitative analysis, regulation, and data, collaborating closely with clearing members, internal stakeholders, and industry bodies. Our work directly contributes to the stability and efficiency of global financial markets.

Your area of work

As a working student you will gain deep, hands-on exposure to the post-trade world and the functioning of a leading international clearing house. You will work on substantive topics supporting business and product development while applying data analytics to real clearing data.

This role is ideal for highly motivated students who want to combine financial markets expertise with modern data skills, and who value steep learning curves in a professional, intellectually demanding environment.

Your responsibilities:

  • You develop business concepts, analyses, and presentations for management and clearing committees related to financial products and services
  • You conduct market and competitor analyses to support strategic and product-related decisions
  • You evaluate and improve internal processes, identifying opportunities to apply automation or AI‑based approaches
  • You create, maintain, and enhance regular and ad‑hoc reports analyzing clearing volumes, positions, and trends
  • You contribute to data reconciliation reports, dashboards, and analytical tools (Power BI, Databricks, SQL)
  • You support a broad range of analytical and conceptual ad‑hoc tasks for senior management and project teams, directly contributing to decision‑making

Your profile:

  • You are enrolled throughout the entire assignment at a state-recognized university as a regular student and have completed at least two semesters with strong academic results in economics, business, finance, data science or a comparable field
  • You have a solid interest in financial markets and financial infrastructure; prior knowledge of clearing is an advantage, but not required
  • You enjoy data analysis and have hands-on experience with tools such as SQL, Power BI, Databricks, or similar. Basic programming skills in SQL are required; Python/PySpark experience is a plus
  • You are curious, analytical, and eager to continuously build new skills at the intersection of finance and data
  • You work in a structured and reliable manner and communicate clearly and confidently
  • You have very good knowledge of Microsoft 365, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • You are fluent in English (written and spoken); German is beneficial but not mandatory
  • You are available to work at least 15 hours per week for a period of at least 6 months

What you will learn:

  • How a global central counterparty (CCP) works endtoend: trade capture → novation → margining → settlement → default management, and why this matters for market stability
  • Practical understanding of listed & OTC derivatives and how product features translate into clearing design choices
  • How clearing member needs and market structure shape product strategy through committees, stakeholder alignment, and industry initiatives
  • How major regulatory regimes (e.g., EMIR / MiFIR) turn into concrete operating models: controls, governance, and transaction reporting obligations
  • How to back management decisions with evidence from real clearing data, turning volumes/positions/trends into crisp insights and executiveready narratives
